If you enjoy adventure and fantasy, there is nothing like a journey through Middle Earth with the original trilogy of The Lord of the Rings. In the original trilogy, The Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers, the hobbits or halflings are a human-like race, half the size of humans, living in a small community. They live on a rocky island, where they work on farms and hold down their own families. They work in a community of fellow hobbits and fellow travelers who travel to Middle Earth by boat, and in return, they give advice and companionship. The hobbits or halflings live underground and live in small, underground dwellings that have large windows.

In The Fellowship of the Ring, the hobbits are forced to leave their small island and go out into the world, to find a place where they can live with the other races of elves and men, such as Men and Hobbits. When they reach the Undying Lands, they realize that they will need to find the Ring of Power, the magical item that will allow them to enter the fellowship of the ring. To accomplish this task, they must first defeat the evil wizard Sauron and recover the ring from his evil clutches. They do so by finding the one ring that Sauron wears on his finger. Once they do this, the ring comes off of Sauron's finger and into the possession of the hobbits. The hobbits travel back to Middle Earth and stay there until the end of The Fellowship of the Ring.

In The Two Towers, the hobbits travel to another area of Middle Earth, where they live as part of the population of the North. The Two Towers is set during the time period after The Fellowship of the ring, when the evil wizard Saruman has taken over the White Tower. Saruman is seeking to keep the hobbits and other people of the North in their place and make them work for him. He sends Gollum, a dwarf who carries a bag of gold and silver, to the hobbits to get them to help him against the other races of people in the North. Once the hobbits return to help them, the story moves on to the end of The Two Towers and how Gollum is reunited with his lost friend Frodo Baggins. at Mount Doom, where they help to destroy the Ringwraiths.
